Leagues Cup 2024 Returns with Expanded Format and Thrilling Matchups
Unveiling the New Groups and Tournament Structure
The much-anticipated Leagues Cup 2024 is set to captivate soccer fans once again, with an expanded tournament format and captivating matchups that promise non-stop excitement. Building upon the success of the inaugural tournament, this year's edition will feature all 47 teams from Major League Soccer (MLS) and LIGA MX, the top professional soccer leagues in North America.
Group Stage Intensity
The 47 teams will be divided into 15 groups, consisting of three teams each. The group stage will determine the 16 teams that advance to the knockout rounds. Each group will play a round-robin format, with teams earning three points for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-place finishers, will progress to the round of 16.
Knockout Thrills
The round of 16 will feature intense single-elimination matches, with the winners advancing to the quarterfinals. The semifinals and final will be played over two legs, home and away, to determine the ultimate champion. The team with the higher 2022 Supporters Shield ranking will host the second leg of the semifinals and final.
