Alexander Zverev Wins Hamburg European Open for the First Time

Youngest Champion in Tournament History

First Title Since Injury

Alexander Zverev produced a high-class final display Sunday in the city of his birth to defeat Laslo Djere and win the Hamburg European Open for the first time in his hometown. The 25-year-old German, who missed the second half of last season with an ankle injury, won 6-4, 6-2 to claim his second title of the year and the 19th of his career.

Zverev, who is now the youngest champion in the tournament's history, was in dominant form throughout the week, dropping just one set on his way to the title. He is the second German to win the event after Michael Stich in 1993.

Sunday's victory is a major boost for Zverev, who has been working his way back to full fitness after his injury. He is now ranked world No. 2 and is one of the favorites for the upcoming US Open.

Djere, who was playing in his first ATP final, gave a good account of himself but was ultimately no match for Zverev. The Serbian had a chance to break back in the first set but couldn't take it and Zverev closed out the set with a love game.

Zverev broke Djere's serve twice in the second set and served out for the title to the delight of the home crowd.
